WASHINGTON, D.C. — Activity in the US services sector eased in January , survey data showed on Wednesday, with respondents hit by poor weather and worries over President Donald Trump's tariff threats.The Institute for Supply Management's services index edged down to 52.8 percent last month, from 54.0 percent in December.The January figure was below a 53.9 percent reading expected by a Briefing.com consensus forecast, although it still indicated an expansion in the industry.
'Many panelists also mentioned preparations or concerns related to potential US government tariff actions,' he said.But he noted there was 'little mention of current business impacts as a result.'In particular, the business activity index was 54.5 percent in January, 3.5 percentage points lower than in December.The new orders index was 51.3 percent last month, 3.1 percentage points below December's number, too.
