MANILA — Over 600 American citizens fled the country Saturday amid the coronavirus pandemic, according to a statement of US Embassy in Manila this Sunday.

The US Embassy in the Philippines said their citizens and lawful permanent residents located across the Philippines were flown back to the US via "coordinated special flights with Philippine Airlines."

"Across the globe the United States is making every effort to assist U.S. citizens who wish to go back home to the United States... The U.S. government has no higher priority than ensuring the safety, welfare, and security of U.S. citizens overseas," the embassy said in a statement. The Philippines has logged 10,610 confirmed COVID-19 cases, as of Saturday, of which, 1,842 have recovered and 704 have died.
