The University of the Philippines (UP) Board of Regents (BOR) on Friday, Dec. 9, elected former regent and private lawyer Angelo A. Jimenez as the next and 22nd UP president.

The University of the Philippines Board of Regents on Friday, Dec. 9, elected former regent and private lawyer Angelo A. Jimenez as the next and 22nd UP president.This was confirmed by the university’s official student publication, Philippine Collegian.He will take over outgoing UP President Danilo Concepcion in February 2023 and will serve the office until 2029.

Jimenez served as UP regent from 2016 to 2021 and was also a deputy administrator of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration from 2005 to 2007. “Siguro mas maganda ang kanyang sagot, siguro mas maganda aang kanyang plataporma ,” said meeting Chairman and Commission on Higher Education Chairman J. Prospero De Vera III in a quick interview posted by Philippine Collegian.

Other nominees were UP Diliman Chancellor Fidel Nemenzo, Catanduanes State University President Patrick Alain Azanza, former UP Los Baños Chancellor Fernando Sanchez Jr., former 1-Edukasyon Representative Salvador Belaro Jr., and former UP Diliman Vice Chancellor for research and development Benito Pacheco.
