Dr. Ivan Anthony Henares, secretary-general of the UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines, stated that geosites like the Chocolate Hills should be safeguarded by the government. He also mentioned the importance of considering prior environmental laws if the resort was built before August 24, 2023.
UNESCO echoed the public outcry against Captain’s Peak resort that tarnished the beauty of Chocolate Hills in Bohol Island, which should have been protected by the national government at all costs due to its designation as a Global Geopark . Dr.
