THE number of unemployed Filipinos went up to 4.25 million in September from 3.88 million in August, the Philippine Statistics Authority said.In a briefing on Thursday, National Statistician Dennis Mapa said that based on the latest Labor Force Survey , the number of out-of-work individuals translates to an unemployment rate of 8.9 percent, up from the 8.1 percent recorded a month earlier.

It was also the highest recorded since January this year.Mapa said the stringent quarantine measures and the weather disturbances that reduced employment in the agriculture sector led to the uptick in unemployment rate. The Labor Force Participation Rate rate meanwhile also went down to 63.3 percent, accounting for 47.85 million Filipinos 15 years and over who were in the labor force. This is down from the 63.6 percent in August.
