The University of the East has conferred the honorific title of President Emeritus on its past president of 17 years, Dr. Ester Albano Garcia , in formal ceremonies held on Monday afternoon, November 11, 2024, at the UE Manila Conference Hall. Garcia, former chairperson of the Commission on Higher Education from 1999 to 2003 with vast and outstanding academic and governmental achievements, is the first female official and only the second in UE history to receive the president emeritus title.
The UE president emeritus earlier helped organize the former Philippine Council for Advanced Science and Engineering Technology Research and Development, now the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development, under the Department of Science and Technology . She also initiated the upgrading of the UP Division of Natural Science and Mathematics to the UP College of Science.
