At a press conference that happened to fall on Pride month, candidates representing El Nido and Caloocan take a stand against trans women competing alongside cis women.
Two candidates of Miss Philippines Earth 2021 said that transgender women should not be allowed to compete in pageants alongside cisgender women.
Both candidates said they disapproved of the idea, saying that transgender women should compete in separate pageants. “I believe that transgenders should have their own beauty pageants and it’s because to celebrate their own beauty and to let people know…and to have the respect that they deserve. So I do believe that,” she said.
“I respect transgender, I respect their community as their opinion on their selves, but I also believe we need inclusivity, you know? Miss Universe…we are celebrating the natural beauty of naturally born women and I believe too that this transgender, they have their own pageants where they can showcase their skills, their talents, their beauties.”
