Two men have been charged with allegedly attempting to loot the rural property in Wieambilla where two young police officers and a neighbour were gunned down last week.
Police allege the pair drove out to the Wains Road property at around 2am on Sunday, parked their car nearby and hiked through bushes until they reached the house.
A 23-year-old and 25-year-old from Tara were arrested and have been charged with one count each of unlawful trespass and stealing by looting.Constables Matthew Arnold, 26, and Rachel McCrow, 29, were shot and killed during an ambush at the property on Monday, alongside neighbour Alan Dare, 58. Police later found two sniper foxholes concealed by scrub on the property as well as underground living quarters on the property.Constable Keely Brough survived the shooting and was among around four hundred people who gathered in the Queensland town to pay their respects to Constable Arnold, Constable McCrow and Mr Dare.“Very shocked when it happened. You just don’t expect this kind of craziness to happen in a small town,” Resident Robert Hockings told Sky News Australia.
