KOTA KINABALU: Two civil servants were among seven people arrested for alleged drug trafficking in the Tawau district.

The suspects were arrested in two separate raids by police teams from the state Narcotics Crime Investigation Department and Tawau district police over two days from March 20.

Tawau district police chief Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said Monday they arrested five suspects in a car at a residential area and found 103.4g of syabu. The five suspects are all locals aged 30 to 59. "All the suspects have drug-related criminal records, including one who has eight cases," he said at a press conference here.He said the suspects were in a car and tried to escape but police managed to arrest them."We also seized the car and RM1,292 in cash," he said, adding that police believe that all seven were part of the same drug network.

He said that the two civil servants tested negative for drugs while the other five suspects were positive. The drugs have a street value of RM130,000," he said, adding that all seven suspects have been remanded till April 3 and the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty.
