Television and radio icon Leila Benitez has passed away due to COVID-19. She was 89 years old.

Eddie Ilarde, Benitez’ former co-host in “Student Canteen” confirmed the news on DzBB. “Student Canteen” was a popular radio and TV lunch time show in the early 1960s.

Benitez died on April 9 in New York. According to a report by CNN, Benitez died “peacefully” at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Manhattan.Benitez was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, Donald McCollum, founder of the first marketing and television research company in the United States.
