Six Filipino seafarers were acquitted of drug smuggling charges in Turkey and are expected to return to the Philippines by the end of the month, Kabayan party-list Rep. Ron Salo announced on Thursday.
He said the Embassy worked closely with Phoenician M’s legal team and hired private lawyers to defend the sea-based Filipino workers. The seafarers—Eddie Abello, Pather John Bobiles, Junil Dalumpines, Danvis Ruales, John Sulima, and Ariel Carmelo Vargas—were aboard the Phoenician M when Turkish authorities arrested them under allegations of drug smuggling.
