US military planes transported hundreds of Guatemalan migrants back to Guatemala as part of a large-scale deportation operation announced by the Donald Trump administration. The White House claims this marks the 'largest massive deportation operation in history', with over a thousand arrests and hundreds of deportations in just two days.

They were ferried by two US military planes out of the US following the announcement of the Donald Trump administration of a massive operation to deport migrants, official authorities reported. AFP

The Mexican government has not confirmed either the arrival of flights or any agreement to receive a specific number of planes with deportees. Some 538 illegal immigrant “criminals” were arrested Thursday, it said, followed by another 593 on Friday. A Pentagon source told AFP that “overnight, two DOD aircraft conducted repatriation flights from the US to Guatemala.”

Trump promised a crackdown on illegal immigration during the election campaign and began his second term with a flurry of executive actions aimed at overhauling entry to the United States.
