Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is calling on Israel to change course and de-escalate tensions in the Middle East, condemning its security force’s raid of a Jerusalem mosque and proposed judicial reforms that critics say give too much power to the legislature and executive over the justice system. Trudeau made the comments unprompted after a media availability at a Honda manufacturing plant in Alliston, Ont., where he touted his government’s recently revealed budget.
“Since there wasn’t a question, I do want to comment on the situation in Israel,” he said, describing the country as a “dear, close and steadfast friend.”
