A ceasefire between Israel and Hamas has come into effect, allowing humanitarian aid to enter Gaza. However, Israel continues its military operation in the West Bank, specifically targeting Jenin.
HUMANITARIAN AID . United Nations’ vehicles make their way along a highway in the southern coastal town of Naqura, on the border with Israel the other day. This, as trucks carrying humanitarian aid entered Palestine’s Gaza after a long-awaited truce between Israel and Hamas came into effect.
Former US president Joe Biden had pushed for months for a deal along the same outlines. Trump sent an envoy to help push through an agreement before he took office, although the Republican has since said he is not confident the deal will hold. An AFP correspondent reported hearing gunfire and explosions from the northern city’s refugee camp, a hotbed of militancy where Israeli forces have carried out repeated raids.
The Palestinian Authority’s foreign ministry accused Israel of “collective punishment” and said the raid was part of an Israeli plan aimed at “gradually annexing the occupied West Bank”.
