Residents of nine local municipalities will have the opportunity to acquire a variety of native tree and shrub seedlings through designated giveaway locations on Saturday.

Maya Navrot, Quinte Conservation’s Outreach and Stewardship Coordinator says trees help to clean air and lock up carbon, slow and filter runoff, and aid in recharging groundwater while reducing flooding. Navrot adds, “They also help to shade and cool our urban areas while providing habitat for wildlife and improving our general health.”“So we are working with our municipalities to distribute a diversity of native species to replace those ash that are dying out. To help maintain and increase forest cover across the region.”“People come back year after year, excited to add more to their yard. So it’s always nice to hear that they are thriving.
