Transport group Pasang Masda on Monday said it wants to charge a “surge fee” worth P1 to commuters during rush hour to offset the effects of fuel price increases.
According to James Agustin's report on GMA News’ Unang Balita, some drivers lamented that the recent fare hike would be useless if fuel prices continue to climb.
“Kahit tumaas po ang pamasahe, hindi pa rin po sapat yung dinagdag nilang pamasahe sa taas ngayon ng diesel. Hirap pa rin po kami. Hindi pa rin po kaya,” jeepney driver Ernest Mangune said., marking the second straight week of major upward adjustments. In separate advisories, Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp. and Seaoil Philippines Inc. said they will hike prices per liter of gasoline by P0.80, diesel by P2.70, and kerosene by P2.90.The changes will take effect at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, October 18, for all the firms except for Cleanfuel, which will adjust prices at 4:01 p.m. the same day.
Some commuters expressed openness about the proposed surge fee during rush hour, as the additional fee would help drivers and operators make ends meet. The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board earlier said there will be no more fare increases until the end of 2022.
