How’s this for doing things by the book? Toyota Motor Philippines is taking an extreme approach and recalling 1,666 first-generation Toyota 86s and 170 GR Supras for, get this, a missing sticker. Yes, that’s right—a sticker.
A total of 1,666 first-generation Toyota 86 sportscars produced from April 12, 2012 to April 9, 2021 and 170 units of the GR Supra produced from March 29, 2019 to June 5, 2020 are being called back to dealerships because they’re missing an Emissions Control label. Take note: there’s nothing mechanically wrong with the affected vehicles, and this is simply the case of having them be compliant with the local product standard and laws. Along the way, everyone is reminded that Toyota is schooling every other car brand out there on how to handle recalls and campaigns. Kudos to their transparency.
Toyota says the fix will have the dealers install the Emissions Control label on the 1,836 affected units at no extra cost to customers.
