The city has 43% of North America’s tower cranes in the largest urban centres, according to the latest N.A. Crane Index from consulting firm Rider Levett Bucknall reports On-Site Magazine.Start your day with a roundup of B.C.-focused news and opinion delivered straight to your inbox at 7 a.m., Monday to Friday.By clicking on the sign up button you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc.

“There were 20,000 condominium starts in 2020, accounting for the majority of the cranes ,” RLB’s t bi-quarterly report states..RLB tallied 486 cranes across 14 Canadian and U.S. cities and with 45 tower cranes, Washington D.C. placed second in the crane count. Los Angeles and Seattle each shared third place with 43 cranes, while Calgary’s 35 cranes earned it a fifth place spot as the only other Canadian city in the count.

The only sour news, depending on how you feel about construction, is with the pandemic decreasing the number of people moving to Toronto, lower housing starts — and crane counts — could be coming.
