The TTC’s Line 1 subway is among 14 routes where service could be reduced next month according to a draft service memo from January obtained by transit advocacy group TTCriders.

TTC

Riders on Saturday mornings and evenings would wait for as much as 8 minutes instead of the current 6 minutes. On Sundays, the wait for trains could be as long as 8 minutes, instead of the current 5 minute wait, depending on the hour of the day.The information in the draft memo, which TTCriders obtained through a freedom of information request, is not final, but gives an idea of what the transit agency is considering. The TTC said the full list of routes will be published in the next week.

Service reductions are also proposed for streetcar routes including 512 St. Clair and 506 Carlton/College, and bus routes including 32D Eglinton West and 52G Lawrence West.“This shows the cuts are widespread, impacting all modes and all neighbourhoods,” said Shelagh Pizey-Allen, executive director of TTCriders.

Tangpongprush said the planned cuts will not only make her commute more difficult, but will make her feel less safe, since she’ll have to wait longer in stations late at night. “This is how a spiral starts, and when that spiral starts it’s very hard to get off that cycle,” said Matti Siemiatycki, professor of geography and planning at the University of Toronto.
