Friday, Jan. 6: OC Transpo should match service requirements to transit riders\u0027 needs, [email protected]
With the federal government considering having 100 per cent of vehicles with zero-emission sold by 2035, demands for EV vehicles will grow and it is incumbent on the government and the EV manufacturers to provide sufficient electrical grid and EV charging infra-structure in place. Apartment landlords and developers have a role to play as well.
It is important that the government, landlords, developers and EV manufacturers work together to address EV charging access issues for those who live in multi-unit dwellings. One solution could be for the government to offer incentives for landlords and property owners to install EV charging stations, such as tax breaks or grants to offset the cost of installation. EV manufacturers could also offer discounts or financing options for charging stations to make them more accessible to landlords and property owners.
Another option would be for the appropriate level of government to mandate that new multi-unit dwellings include EV charging stations in their plans. This would ensure that residents have access to charging stations from the start, rather than having to retrofit existing buildings. As for the landlords and developers, they could contribute to the solution by considering installing charging stations in their properties or providing designated parking spaces for EVs.
Overall, it is critical that all stakeholders work together to address the lack of access to charging stations in order to accelerate the adoption of EVs and make them a more viable option for all.Sign up to receive daily headline news from Ottawa Citizen, a division of Postmedia Network Inc.By clicking on the sign up button you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc.
