The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) predicts scattered rains and thunderstorms across the country due to the combined influence of the shear line, easterlies, and northeast monsoon. The shear line will affect Eastern Visayas, while the easterlies will bring similar weather to Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Davao Oriental. The northeast monsoon will impact Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, including Batanes, with partly cloudy to overcast skies and isolated light rains.
MANILA, Philippines — Three weather systems – the shear line, the easterlies and the northeast monsoon or amihan – will prevail in most parts of the country, bringing scattered rains and thunderstorms, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Monday.
Weather specialist Robert Badrina said the convergence of hot and cold air or shear line has been affecting Eastern Visayas where scattered rains and thunderstorms are likely in the next 24 hours. Areas in Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Davao Oriental will have similar weather due to the easterlies or winds coming from the east passing through the Pacific Ocean that carry humid and warm temperatures. Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon will affect Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon including Batanes where partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated light rains would be likely, Badrina said. The easterlies will bring isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the rest of the country, Pagasa said in its 5 a.m. advisory
