Three minors were saved from drowning by the River Warriors of the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission on Friday.
According to PRRC River Warrior head Niño Gutierrez, they were currently conducting a cleanup operation when bystanders asked them to help the teenagers who are struggling to swim back to the banks of the Pasig River in Jones Bridge, Manila due to the strong water current intensified by monsoon rains.
The River Warriors quickly responded and gave them ropes and life jackets. They were instantly brought to the Lawton Ferry Station. According to the minors, who were comprised of two boys both aged 14 and a 15-year-old girl, they were not expecting the river’s strong current because they swim there everyday.“Alam n’yo sa ganitong panahon, malakas ang current ng tubig, talagang tatangayin na kayo n’yan papuntang Manila Bay. Sa susunod, huwag na kayo maglalangoy pagdating ng tag-ulan,” Gutierrez said.
PRRC director Jose Antonio Goitia also reminded everyone to refrain from swimming or bathing in rivers, especially while raining.
