AS of August 2024, workers across the country are short by an average of P772 to live decently. Data collected by think tank IBON Foundation revealed that there is a 36.5 percent national wage gap between the minimum salary and family living wage (FLW) for a family of five.

However, despite this slight adjustment, most workers in the National Capital Region may still not feel it as the daily FLW also increased to P1,206 from P1,178 in August 2023. Out of the 17 regions in the country, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao has recorded the highest cost of family living at P2,045.

“We need to come up with a realistic living wage because if we’re strict about it, we’re violating the Constitution if we do not provide our people with a living wage,” Legarda said on Thursday.“Whether it is sufficient or not is , as there are families with simpler ,” NWPC Executive Director Criselda Sy explained in Filipino.
