Rachel Davey and Martina Sebova completed a dream that was years in the making last month; travelling to all 195 countries in the world. To many on the outside, they did so as friends, but they have been a couple for almost 15 years.
Travel brought Rachel Davey and Martina Sebova together. Almost 15 years ago, the two women met on a 49-day overland tour of Europe.
"It wasn't really planned; it just sort of happened, and we were super proud and excited," Martina says.Friends often asked them if anyone had ever visited every country in the world, so one day, while living in Melbourne, they did some digging. "From our previous travels, we were already used to travelling as a couple, but understanding that in certain countries, we cannot disclose that," Martina says.
"The only choice you have to make is when you’re checking into a hotel, what kind of room type you're going to ask for."Both Martina and Rachel acknowledge the situation could be more difficult for two men.Their experience was different in Saudi Arabia, which is among the countries that criminalise same-sex sexual activity. The gender expression of trans people is also criminalised.

Wieambilla property could be turned into ‘permanent memorial’ for slain police officersQueensland Police Union CEO Ian Leavers says he doesn’t want the Wieambilla property used in last week’s deadly shooting in the hands of conspiracy theorists who could “use it for evil”. The Queensland Police Union is in talks with the Palaszczuk government to buy the block of land in Wieambilla. Mr Leavers said he wants to see the property turned into a “permanent memorial” for murdered police officers Matthew Arnold and Rachel McCrow. “Whether it’s used as a police retreat or as a training centre, but it can be a memorial forever in a day and we can honour that sacred site where Matthew and Rachel paid the ultimate sacrifice,” he told Sky News Australia. “I’m just really concerned with these evil people within the community, that they don’t get their hands on this and use it to promote their radical views which are just un-Australian.”
