'There was no wrong you could do': Elisabeth Moss gets unhinged for Her Smell via nparts
In Her Smell, a third collaboration with indie director Alex Ross Perry , Elisabeth Moss stars as Becky Something, a ’90s grunge-rock queen — running mascara and all — who has one too many addictions. The film takes a slightly different tonal route from Moss and Perry’s previous projects, but she remains front and centre.
A: I love exactly that about them. I love those women. And I suppose I do like extremes in a character, it’s more fun and challenging – that’s why I do this job. But that’s not always a conscious choice; sometimes I feel drawn to them for reasons other than their hunger but then that comes along. Anything else would be boring.
But on our set, there was no wrong you could do, no rules you could break, nothing you could do that would be too loud or too much because the character is so big. So it became a combination of control and allowing myself to have room to have accidents, play and be comfortable. Q: This is your third collaboration with Perry. Does working together again make the process any easier?
