Privacy commissioner commissioner Ronald Kruzeniski determined eight people, mostly doctors, had snooped on the electronic health files of 10 people
A truck goes through the intersection near the memorial for the 2018 crash involving Humboldt Broncos hockey team bus on January 30, 2019 in Tisdale, Sask.Saskatchewan’s privacy commissioner says he feels vindicated after a court decision involving a doctor who inappropriately examined health records of Humboldt Broncos team members who were in a deadly bus crash.
Dr. Crombie Stebner, who looked at the files of three patients, took the privacy commissioner to court to prevent him from identifying her in his reports. “Dr. Stebner’s position appears to be that if disclosure of her identity would cause her upset or embarrassment, it should not be disclosed in any circumstances,” he wrote in the decision. “That is not the law.Kruzeniski said he appreciates the judge’s comments.“Anytime you have a breach of data or have somebody snooping, the fact that there might be a report about it certainly can cause a concern about reputation or embarrassment,” he said in an interview this week.
