The world must learn to do without the US
LAST week, the United States rejected a draft agreement to be debated and adopted at the upcoming 4th Financing for Development Conference in Sevilla, Spain, and said it would not attend the meeting nor participate in any further discussions. The move came as no surprise to anyone, but was still deeply disappointing to the other 50-plus countries taking part.
The other participants in the talks correctly scoffed at this behavior as being ridiculous and insincere, at which point Shrier issued a statement saying, “The United States regrets that the text before us today does not offer a path to consensus,” adding that the US “hereby withdraws from this preparatory process, and will not participate in FfD4 in Sevilla, Spain.
