The Voice to Parliament “defines people by race” instead of empowering First Nations peoples, according to Shadow Veterans’ Affairs Minister Barnaby Joyce.

“The first article that the United Nations Convention on Human Rights is that everybody will be treated with equal dignity and equal rights,” he told Sky News Australia.

“This of course is that some people will be treated differently on the premise of the colour of the skin or DNA. “That philosophically creates problems for me because it says that there’s like a deficiency almost if you are of a certain race and you’re not. “What’s happening in Alice Springs is not determined by the colour of people’s skin it’s the term by the circumstances they live in.”
