AFTER the midterm election next year, a dozen newly minted senators will descend from a clown car into the Senate hall for the traditional inauguration. We can assume this much because the polling is generally accurate, and we have a general idea of who the winners cum jokers will be.
Except for a few with real seriousness about policy, the majority of the elected will be entirely clueless about what Senate work is all about and that includes the multiple repeaters who started out as clowns and are still beyond the reach of intellectual evolution.
The next elections would have been an opportune time to elect senators with the work ethic and with the intellectual power to write and pass policies on climate change adaptation. Alas, from the names that the polling says would be the winners in the mid-term senatorial elections, there is no hope for the emergence of a senator, well-versed with and persevering enough to write and pass climate science legislation.
