THE Philippine Council for Foreign Relations and the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs have exchanged visits to promote understanding, goodwill and peace between our two nations on the basis of people-to-people relations. These underscore the respective contributions we can make to efforts to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in our region through a dialogue on security, economics and culture.

We continue to proclaim the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea binding tribunal award, as we do today, to preserve our sovereign rights and jurisdiction over our 200-mile exclusive economic zone and continental shelf under the Unclos. Our foreign policy is based on respect for the rule of law and the UN Charter.
