The Open Championship has become the latest sporting event to be canceled this year amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, while the US Open has been moved from June to September.
The Open, one of golf's four major tournaments, was set to take place at the Royal St George's, UK, from July 16-19.
"We care deeply about this historic Championship and have made this decision with a heavy heart. We appreciate that this will be disappointing for a great many people around the world but we have to act responsibly during this pandemic and it is the right thing to do. This is the first time since the Second World War that The Open has been canceled, and the 149th edition of the tournament will now take place at Royal St George's in July next year.
