Back in March, Honda pulled the covers off the facelifted Vezel in Japan.

Most of us know that subcompact crossover as the HR-V, and we reckoned that it would only be a matter of time before we saw HR-V badges on the same car.

Fast forward six months later, that’s exactly what happened. After half a year of waiting, the facelifted Honda HR-V has finally made its way to Southeast Asia. Thailand is the first market to get it, which is no surprise as Southeast Asian Honda models are mostly sourced from there.Designated airport ‘hatid-sundo’ drivers, note the upcoming NAIA terminal reassignmentsChanges to the ASEAN version of the HR-V are identical to the ones seen in the Japanese Vezel.

But because Japan doesn’t get an RS version of the Vezel, there are notable differences as well. The most obvious is the grille design that sports a diamond pattern. Also, the RS bumper has a unique front apron that separates it from Honda HR-V and Vezel models sold in other markets.Moving inside, the center stack and center console has been redesigned to free up more space. The adjustment also adds a larger cubby hole located just below the climate control dials.

While not mentioned, we’re expecting updates to Honda SENSING, the automaker’s advanced driver assist system. Based on the Japanese version, we could see a new radar with a wider degree of scanning traffic jam assist, sudden acceleration suppression function, and adaptive headlights included in the safety package. For now, Honda Thailand is highlighting just one powertrain option. It’s the e:HEV version, and it mates a 1.5-liter engine to a pair of electric motors.
