SOME people would diminish the political importance of the meeting between incumbent Vice President Sara Duterte and former vice president Leni Robredo. Many defenders of Robredo are now even taking offense at former senator Antonio Trillanes IV criticizing Robredo for meeting Duterte.
Trillanes took Robredo to task, implying that she should not have entertained Duterte, considering that the latter has been disrespectful of Sen. Risa Hontiveros, a Robredo ally, and that the political opposition is even considering filing an impeachment case against the vice president.According to reports, Robredo spokesman Barry Gutierrez explained that Duterte, who was visiting Naga City for the Peñafrancia celebrations, had informed them only minutes before her unannounced visit.
She appears to lose the optics and image war as she gets painted, thanks to her antics in Congress, as a 'bratinella' who is allergic to accountability and is so full of hubris and an oversupply of exceptionalism. She is also suffering from being on the wrong side of the China debate, as she is being branded as a pro-China apologist.
