But we now have a much-changed landscape. We now have regional universities that are also funded by the government so that UP can no longer claim its unique place.While maintaining its academic leadership in many fields, UP no longer has monopoly over excellence in every discipline.
Unfortunately, the numbers that come from the demographics of its students are showing signs of the erosion not only of UP being 'national' in character but also of it supposedly being the place where the 'poor' find an opportunity to be educated.Out of the approximately 10,000 who passed the 2024 UP College Admission Test , it was reported that a large plurality of 44 percent were from private schools and 27 percent were from science high schools.
