Livestock losses in the once-in-a-century Kimberley flooding event are expected to be in the tens of thousands, as the WA government triggers an emergency management plan.

Ms McClymont said state and federal funding was vital to getting the Kimberley pastoral industry back on its feet.

"We're not going to come out of this in weeks or months — it will take years to come out the other side," Kimberley Pilbara Cattlemen's Association head Jak Andrews said. "People's access to their usual markets for their cattle – whether that's the live export port of the Kimberley Meat Company – is severely compromised," she said.

WA's Opposition leader Mia Davies said the main feedback she was getting was about the inability to get produce out of the region.
