But the unseeded Belarusian enjoyed a fairytale run to the final at the US National Tennis Center, which included a three sets defeat of former foe Serena Williams in the semi-finals. Azarenka says she is benefitting from a new outlook on life, in contrast to her younger years when winning tennis matches was all that mattered.

"When you're young, you got some not great people around you, they just put in, like, this tunnel vision. Don't look right, don't look left," Azarenka explained.
