The teenager who allegedly attacked Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel at a western Sydney church on Monday evening had been suspended from school in 2020 for carrying a knife, sources have told Sky News.
Teen accused of stabbing priest in 'terrorist incident' that sparked wild rioting on the streets of Wakeley in western Sydney was suspended from school for carrying a knife
The alleged attack – which followed six people being stabbed to death at Bondi Junction on the weekend and prompted wild rioting outside the bishop’s church – has prompted authorities to ramp up the police presence at places of worship and shopping centres.“We can confirm that this incident has now been declared a terrorist attack and a 16-year old boy has been arrested in relation to the incident,” Australian Federal Police Commissioner Reece Kershaw told a press conference in Canberra.
NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb on Tuesday morning said the teen allegedly turned up at the church armed"possibly with a flick knife" and allegedly stabbed the priest and bishop, who have since undergone surgery for deep cuts.
