Police officers have been injured when an angry mob began hurling projectiles in response to a teenage boy's alleged stabbing of a bishop in Sydney's west.

The service was also livestreamed on social media, with those at home and around the world seeing the horror unfold as the teen allegedly lunged towards the bishop, striking him multiple times as they both fell to the ground. Up to 100 police from across Sydney, Riot Squad officers and PolAir were called to the scene to try and calm the situation.Crowds gathered outside the church.
