MANILA, Philippines -- Another local sports apparel manufacturer, Team Rebel Sports , has stepped up to address the shortage of personal protective equipment for the country's front liners and health care workers in the fight against COVID-19.
TRS, the official outfitter of NorthPort in the PBA and Lyceum of the Philippines University in the NCAA, teamed up with renowned fashion designer Michael Leyva and shifted its operations in its factory in Antipolo to address the urgent need of the front liners."Of course, we cannot turn a blind eye on our modern-day heroes. That is why we immediately said yes to Michael," he added. "Para sa bayan ito eh.
TRS' sales and production usually peak in the dry season, but in light of the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon, the company downscaled its operations by 50%."This is an urgent matter that we need to address, since time is of the essence for our health workers," said Cu. "We may have lost possible income, but we can easily make it up after this crisis."The staff of TRS is now working non-stop to produce face masks and protective suits.
Face masks have been in constant production since March, while the production of suits began last Thursday. The company has made sure to take care of its employees as well, giving them a place to stay for the duration of the lockdown.
