Filipino tennis players Joanna Tan and Mariam Garsin claim silver in the Pro Female category at the 2025 APPT Bangkok Open. They reach the final before falling to a strong Russian pair.
Joanna Tao Yee Tan and Mariam Yasmin Garsin secured a silver medal for the Philippines at the 2025 APPT Bangkok Open in Thailand last weekend. They faced defeat against Russian duo Angelina Neizvestnaya and Alena Vasileva, losing the final 5-7, 2-6. Tan and Garsin put up a valiant effort in the first set, but the Russians eventually overpowered them with dominant shots. This victory earned them the Pro Female crown.
Prior to the final, the Filipino pair showcased their skills, defeating Dutch players Natasja Van Gennip and Thai Darika Roost 6-3, 6-1 in the first round. They followed up with a convincing 6-0, 6-4 semifinal win over Russian pair Regina Kalimullina and Tatiana Samodelok. Tan also participated in the mixed category alongside Argil Lance Canizares. However, they were eliminated in the quarterfinals by Armenian Aram Kocharyan and Thai Ji Vichithong, with a score of 3-6, 4-6.In the Pro Male division, Filipino players Canizares and Abdulqoahar Allian faced defeat in the quarterfinals at the hands of Spanish pair March Bernils and Sergi Nogueras Lorenz, losing 2-6, 1-6. Another Filipino duo, Joseph Serra and his Argentine partner Martin Noschese, also fell in the quarterfinals, losing to Spain’s Pol Alsina and Eduard Ros with a score of 2-6, 3-6.
