Tackling the plastic waste crisis
TALKS began in South Korea this week aimed at closing a legally binding treaty on plastics pollution led by the United Nations Environment Program. The talks follow two years of intergovernmental negotiations to develop a legally binding global instrument that covers land and the marine environment.'Our world is drowning in plastic pollution.
This means those bringing plastic packaging into the Philippine market must pay for the cost of waste prevention, cleanup and recovery measures.But up until this point, given the volume of plastic imported and manufactured for consumption, the country has not been able to catch up with its needs for reducing, recycling and reusing , the World Bank notes in a study titled 'Combating the Plastic Waste Crisis in the Philippines.
