Two volcanic earthquakes were recorded in Taal Volcano in Batangas in the past 24 hours, PHIVOLCS said Saturday. Alert Level 1 (Low-level unrest) remains in effect over Taal Volcano.

Two volcanic earthquakes were recorded in Taal Volcano in Batangas in the past 24 hours, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said Saturday. A total of 5,887 tonnes of sulfur dioxide were emitted on Wednesday, July 12.Meanwhile, moderate plumes rising up to 1,200 meters tall were seen, and these drifted northeast.

It reiterated that Taal Volcano Island including the Permanent Danger Zone and especially the Main Crater and Daang Kastila fissures should be kept off limits.The agency warned that under Alert Level 1, Taal Volcano may have steam-driven or phreatic or gas-driven explosions, volcanic earthquakes, minor ashfall, and lethal accumulations or expulsions of volcanic gas.
