Sydney's planned rail strike has been called off after the NSW government reached an agreement with the Rail, Tram and Bus Union.
The industrial action was due to commence tomorrow and end on Sunday but an agreement has now been reached to avert the strike."I am pleased that we've been able to reach an agreement with the unions, meaning that Sydney siders can get where they need to go on Friday and Saturday, over the weekend," Jo Haylen said.
"There would have been thousands of people that made alternative arrangements on Friday and Saturday ... I apologise for that.""I've agreed to run as many 24-hour train services this coming weekend as possible," Mr Minns said. "We are working with to ensure that crew operations are in place and are available to do that."We believe that there's enough good faith in the room to get that agreement in a short space of time, and the government and the unions have committed to that."Mr Minns said that people who need to use the rail network from Friday through Sunday will now be able to.They will give us an update on industrial action on the rail network.
The government has been locked in crisis talks today with the Rail, Tram and Bus Union to avert the industrial action. NSW Premier Chris Minns said the government has agreed to run as many 24-hour train services as possible this weekend, starting tonight."Intensive bargaining will begin between the government and unions in NSW over the next two weeks with a view from all sides to get a long-term deal across the unions that cover rail in the state that will last multiple years," he said.
