Sydney Light Rail commuters will be able to travel for free for four days next week amid protected industrial action from the Rail, Tram and Bus Union.

The fare free travel period will be in place from the first service on Monday, November 11, until the last service on Thursday, November 14. Sydney Light Rail commuters will get free travel from November 11 to November 14. Picture: Tim Hunter Transport for NSW said the closure of the L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford lines on Saturday and Sunday is not related to the industrial action as it is due to pre-planned maintenance work. The light rail fare free travel also comes amid the RTBU signalling further protected industrial action from next Thursday which will impact the train network.

"Sydney Trains is working to minimise disruption to passengers and is looking at a range of scenarios to discuss with the Union. However, the rail agencies acknowledge the current industrial climate, and escalating bans, are already having an impact on network efficiency and causing passenger delays.
