Breaking: Super maxi Andoo Comanche has taken line honours in the Sydney to Hobart yacht race. Follow our live blog
No wind gust issues in the Derwent as of yet. Comanche is ploughing up the river.And with that, Andoo Comanche is passing South Arm as it enters the main section of the Derwent.
But its speed has dropped dramatically, almost in half: it’s now travelling at 11.7 knots . They’ll be hoping it won’t drop any lower, but as they enter more sheltered areas it’s a definite possibility.Before things get very hectic down south, let’s take a look at the other end of the race.sailed by Kathy Veel and Bridget Canham, who are among the oldest competitors in the race at 70 and 62.
We’ve been watching their work with great interest, and over the last or hour so have noticed them veer off course toward Eden. They’re now comfortably in that bay. I just spoke to Kathy, who says they’re “very busy” and just taking a break – they’ve got no plans to retire.
