Two-hander Avalanche retired from Sydney to Hobart after harbour collision
We’ve just received an update from Tony Mutter, on board LawConnect, which is coming second. LawConnect is within eyesight of Black Jack, which is in third spot.We’ve just learnt that Avalanche, the two-hander, was forced out of the race after it became involved in a collision with two other boats.
Cruising Yacht Club Australia commodore Arthur Lane has just been on Sunrise talking about whether the super maxis will be able to beat Comanche’s 2017 race record.The question I’m sure you’re asking over your breakfast this morning: what on earth did these sailors have for dinner?Llama II, a small yacht that hasn’t previously raced in the Sydney to Hobart, told us the crew had “a tasty risotto ... after a glamour afternoon running down the coast”.
Black Jack, which was sitting behind Wild Oats just before 2am, managed to make good of the wind conditions and raced ahead of LawConnect. There’s less than four nautical miles between LawConnect and Black Jack, which now sit in second and third places, respectively.
