A 42-year-old Sydney man was on holiday with his family on the Mid North Coast when disaster struck, as his teenage daughter got stuck in a rip.

A nearby surfer was able to pick up the teenager and return her to shore. He went back in to get the man who was unresponsive when they reached the sand. "Obviously, it's a tragic situation and our thoughts and prayers go out to the family as well as those who were involved and had to witness this tragedy," he said.“Officers attached to Manning/Great Lakes Police District attended and have commenced inquiries into the incident,” a police statement read.The 42-year-old is the second father to have died attempting to save their child this year.
