Sydney, who finished last in the standings with an 8-26-1-0 record, will face the No. 1 seed Weeks Majors of Pictou County in their best-of-five opening round series, beginning Friday at 7 p.m. in New Glasgow. Haddad also wants his team to be physical, which he thinks could potentially change the way the series goes for the club.
The Majors had three players in the top 10 in scoring including Cape Breton Eagles prospect Lane Lochead, who finished first overall with 19 goals and 55 points in 34 games, and Ben Wallace was fifth in scoring with 23 goals and 50 points in 35 games. Lane Sim, son of former NHLer Jon Sim, was ninth with 16 goals and 45 points.
Despite the Subaru having the advantage in the win column, Islanders head coach Kyle Gillies believes his team has progressed well throughout the season and will bring its best hockey in the playoffs. Jack Hayne and Rory Wood power the offence for Cape Breton West with Hayne leading the team with 19 goals and 34 points in 33 games. Wood had 13 goals and 33 points in 35 games.
