The pollster says 93% of surveyed Filipino adults are welcoming 2022 with hope rather than fear. While higher than 91% last year, it is still lower than the 96% recorded in 2019 — the year before the pandemic struck the Philippines.
More Filipinos are entering the new year with hope, but their number is still less than the pre-pandemic level, the Social Weather Stations reported Wednesday.
The pollster said 93% of adult Filipinos surveyed nationwide from Dec. 12 to 16 are welcoming the new year with hope rather than fear — slightly up from the 91% recorded in 2020. Still, the recent figure is lower than the 96% level logged in 2019, the year before the COVID-19 health crisis struck the Philippines.“The percentage of those who are entering the New Year with hope rather than fear is higher among those who expected a happy Christmas than those who expected neither a happy nor sad Christmas and those who expected a sad Christmas ,” remarked the SWS.
Survey participants who expected a happy Christmas always express higher hopes for the new year, it further said. All groups regardless of educational attainment saw hope for the year ahead rise in the latest survey except for non-elementary graduates, which saw it go down from 91% to 89%. The Fourth Quarter 2021 Social Weather Survey polled 1,440 participants distributed equally among Balance Luzon, Metro Manila, Visayas and Mindanao.“Face-to-face is the standard interviewing method for Social Weather Stations; the only exceptions were early in the pandemic when movement restrictions made face-to-face impossible and mobile phone interviews were conducted,” it said.
