Lisa Batstone will be sentenced on June 12 for second-degree murder.

A Surrey mother was found guilty Friday in Supreme Court in New Westminster of smothering her eight-year-old daughter.

A judge delivered the guilty verdict Friday at the end of the trial that began in October. While Batstone had indicated she’d plead guilty to manslaughter, Crown prosecutors stuck by their murder charge. Gabe Batstone at the time of his daughter’s death said he hoped her death would spark family law reform.
